Nikki Soulsby from West Virginia is our new state girl of the week. She is a Junior here at Sweet Briar. Nikki claims "I learned about Sweet Briar on the drive home from the beach one year. We drove past the beautiful gated entrance and decided to stop in and see what was here." She was of course attracted to the beautiful campus Sweet Briar has, but what really attracted her was the prefessors. "I met with several professors for lunch as a prospective and one of them was Eric Casey. I was taking a Latin class at the time, and he gave me his home phone number and email in case I ever had any questions to discuss." That is what hooked her to the college.
Nikki loves quite a few things about Sweet Briar. She says that "I love the culture at SBC the most. That is partly because of the Honor Code and partly due to the fact that we attract great women to this institution." She also says that "I don't have to lock my door or worry about leaving my computer in the library if I have to go somewhere for a little bit." She loves a lot about the campus, but she really likes that "I can take my exams whenever I am ready to take them. The professors are more concerned with helping their students understand the material than just getting through a book." Nikki also made the comment that the girls are friendly in general.
Nikki may love a lot about Sweet Briar but she also misses a lot from her home state West Virginia. "I would say that what I miss the most about West Virginia is the evening activities that are available. Sweet Briar is wonderful but the most exciting things to do on any given night are to go to Wal-Mart and Sheetz." "In Charleston there are clubs, bars, coffee houses, and any number of stores to visit until 10:00 p.m. or so."
Nikki suggest that if you decide to visit her home state, to go White Water rafting. "It sounds like a silly mountain man thing to do, but it's very fun, plus West Virginia is beautiful."
Something about Nikki that many might not know is that "I have played piano for 13 years." So if you want to talk to Nikki and know more about her, make small talk about piano playing.
